about the church
Eyres Monsell is a council ward in the south of Leicester. It has about 12,000 people living on the estate, with 2 primary schools, 2 co-ops, 3 pubs and 2 bookies. There’s a strong sense of community here, with many 3-generation families living very near each other. The estate is predominantly white-British, but has grown in its diversity over recent years.
Eyres Monsell is in the 10% most deprived estates in the country, according to the 2019 Index of Multiple Deprivation. On the estate there’s a Catholic Church and an Anglican Church on the estate, but no active gospel witness here at all. Most people here are completely un-churched, seeing religion as largely irrelevant to their lives.
Dan and Jamie moved into Eyres Monsell in 2013, and Dan began teaching in one of the local schools. Through that, their love for the estate and awareness of the gospel need has massively increased. And in 2019, Avenue Community Church, where Dan is assistant pastor, committed to supporting them in growing a team to plant a church for Eyres Monsell. Since then, 3 other families have moved into Eyres Monsell and we have committed to work together to grow a church for Eyres Monsell.
Please pray for…
– Us as a team to grow in love and knowledge of God and each other
– Chances to make real friendships with people on the estate to share the gospel with
– More people to join the team and move in
