Spen Valley Church, Cleckheaton

Spen Valley Church was planted into Cleckheaton in September 2017. The Spen Valley sits between Leeds, Bradford, and Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. It is home to 50 000 people, and consists of Cleckheaton, Liversedge, Gomersal, and Heckmondwike. People come from a range of backgrounds, the majority being working class people working mainly in the manufacturing and service sectors, many of whom have lived here all their lives. However, there is also a growing community of professional commuters, taking advantage of the proximity of the M62 and M606 to travel to Leeds, Bradford, and Manchester.

Both Cleckheaton and the wider Spen Valley have a great history of gospel life, but the area has been without a vibrant gospel church for many decades. Most people we meet have never heard the gospel. From 2015 onwards local churches partnered together to support a church plant into the town, and in 2017 Spen Valley Church was planted with a mission to make disciples in Cleckheaton and across the Spen Valley.

Spen Valley Church is a Reformed Baptist church seeking to make disciples of Jesus in Cleckheaton and across the Spen Valley. We are led by two Elders, and employ a Women’s and Outreach Worker, who is freed up to build relationships and share the gospel in the community.
