about the church
Beechwood Chapel is a Brethren-background church on the Beechwood estate on the edge of Birkenhead, started when the estate was built at the end of the 60’s. In 2012 a group of families and individuals from Christ Church Liverpool moved into the community to help revitalise the church, with the aim of not only strengthening Beechwood Chapel, but also planting churches into other deprived areas where there is currently little or no faithful Christian witness.
Our vision is to be a grace-filled community, sharing good news on the Beechwood Estate and beyond. This means that we want to help each other lead distinctive, Jesus-pleasing lives among our neighbours on the estate, and share the good news about Jesus with them in a way that is culturally accessible and appropriate to the people around us.
about the Area
Like many other deprived communities, Beechwood carries the scars of drug and alcohol addiction, unemployment, educational and mental health issues, and violence. Despite the many social needs in the area the spiritual need is much greater: There is much nominal catholicism; apathy to the gospel; and even hostility to the God who “never helped me.” Into that situation we have seen the power of the gospel at work in bringing families and individuals to faith over the last few years.
