Bridge Church

The Bridge Church is a Church on the Ethelred Estate and for the Ethelred Estate. We are made up of people from different backgrounds and cultures, brought together by the Good News of Jesus. Whoever you are and whatever your story we’d love for you to come along, get to know us, and meet Jesus.

The Ethelred has 3,500+ residents packed into an area less than 400m from one side to the other. That is 2.6 x the average density for inner London boroughs. But despite how closely everyone is living together, people are severely isolated. The estate is carved up by 5+ housing managements. There are very few shared civic spaces and almost no organic community connection.

Add to that the many linguistic barriers, the architecture of 37% one-bed flats and the constant churn of 28% private rental. There is also a glaring economic paradox. Ethelred is a stone’s throw from Parliament yet in the top 20% most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. Despite having a substantial proportion of young professionals, the estate is still among the poorest in the country.

But the most heartbreaking reality is that there are zero faithful Bible-believing churches embedded in this estate.

THE GOSPEL NEED

Half Catholic/nominal, third secular, 1 in 7 Muslim; this densely populated, fractured, multi-national, multiply-deprived estate so desperately needs the hope, presence, and family of a local church.
