Council Estate Churches
What is a Council Estate Church?
What is a Council Estate Church? It is a local church congregation specifically located in or serving a UK social housing estate (often called a ‘scheme’ in Scotland or ‘council estate’ in England). Medhurst Ministries exists to champion the UK council estate church because these areas often face significant deprivation and a lack of evangelical witness. We provide a bridge for urban church planting and church revitalisation, offering support to pastors and congregations committed to bringing the hope of Jesus Christ to every council estate in the United Kingdom.”
Medhurst Ministries Network of Churches
Medhurst Ministries has a growing network of council estate churches (and churches trying to reach areas of deprivation) that has been developed to support council estate pastors who serve in some of the UK’s most forgotten places. Despite these communities often being overlooked and under-resourced, they matter deeply to God and to Medhurst Ministries.
Gospel Ministry in these contexts brings challenges like economic hardship, social issues, spiritual opposition, and personal isolation. Therefore, the pastor’s network is more than a directory; it’s a community ensuring those in this work aren’t alone. Uniting leaders with shared conviction, committed to local churches in forgotten communities is central to the network. We believe that by supporting local gospel preaching churches is essential for seeing people in these communities impacted and transformed by Jesus.
